Vir Biotechnology is seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to develop novel therapies for addressing unmet medical need in infectious diseases. This person will play a critical role in integrating the Company’s platform technologies into best-in-class antimicrobial products. This person will have significant interactions with other research departments for developing and leading new research strategies across multiple pathogens, but with an emphasis on Plasmodium infections and malaria.


Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:

    • Independently conducts key scientific research to support the development of novel infectious disease therapies with emphasis on malaria.
    • Designs and performs studies to identify, evaluate and characterize molecules of different drug modalities (antibody, nucleic acid, small molecule) in a BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory environment.
    • Maintains and integrates broad knowledge of advancements in the field of malaria.
    • Co-authors protocols, technical reports, publications, and regulatory submissions, including supporting non-clinical pharmacology data packages.
    • Provides input into the strategy and design of drug development projects.
    • Effective team player who maintains project timelines and actively participates in team meetings in both research and clinical capacities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Preferred: PhD in microbiology, virology, molecular and cell biology with a minimum of 3 years’ industry R&D experience OR MS with a minimum of 6 years’ experience OR BS with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
    • Experience with parasitology techniques, such as routine cultivation, gliding assays, cell-based infection models, and infection readouts (i.e. invasion, traversal).
    • Expertise in Plasmodium sporozoites and/or antibody therapies is highly desirable.
    • Ability to work in a high paced inter-disciplinary and cross functional team environment, meet deadlines and prioritize work on multiple projects.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong project management/organizational skills are essential.
